This is a Levittown house. There was a half wall between the family room and the dining area, and we took it out, so now it’s one open room with a gray tile floor. On a whole house, that’s the kind of change you want settled at the start. Halfway through, the floor in one of those rooms might already be down.
Our work is probably an even split between bathrooms, kitchens and full homes, all over Long Island and in New York City. A full home has the widest range of any of them. Typically it’s 2 to 4 months, and it depends on the size of the house and how much of it you’re doing.
How it usually goes with us
It starts with a phone call. We talk it through to make sure it’s a good fit on both sides, and we can give you a free estimate over the phone. Then we’ll set up a time at the showroom, and we ask people to bring pics, videos and their wishlist, because that’s what we work from.
The wishlist can just be what bugs you in each room. Not all of it has to get done in one go, either. Some things can wait for a second phase.
The price is based on the scope and on what you pick out in the showroom. Once there’s a deposit, we reserve the materials if they’re in stock in our warehouse, or order them if need be. When everything has arrived, we call you to schedule the job. That’s why it helps to pick your tile, flooring, cabinets and fixtures early. Nobody wants to be waiting on a decision halfway through.
The showroom and warehouse is at 29 Jerusalem Ave., Unit 1, in Levittown. The tile, flooring, cabinets, fixtures and moldings there are the same materials we install, and the flooring, tile and countertops we install ourselves. Our crew does the work; plumbing and electric go to licensed contractors.
Check the license, and read the contract
If you’re on Long Island or in the city, whoever does a home improvement job for you needs a license from the county or from the city, and you can look each of those up online. We hold all three (Nassau County 203679, Suffolk County HI-71569, New York City 2129147-DCWP). The lookup links are in our guide to hiring a contractor on Long Island.
New York State law spells out what a home improvement contract has to include and how your deposit has to be handled. On a whole-house job that contract gets long, and it’s worth reading slowly. We walk through it in our post on what a remodeling contract must include, with links to the law and the county and city rules.
Permits
On Long Island your permit comes from the town or village building department. In New York City it’s the Department of Buildings, and they put it simply: “Most construction in New York City requires approval and permits.” Whoever is getting the permit, write it into the contract.
Give us a call, or get in touch. Family owned since 1989.
